Gum disease is the inflammation of the gum tissues thus resulting to its symptoms that includes red, swollen, tender, sensitive gums and gums that bleed easily when brushing. What causes the inflammation is the irritation caused by excessive accumulation of plaque.
Untreated gum disease can lead to more serious dental problems, periodontitis and can trigger certain medical conditions such as diabetes and heart attack as the most common. The key to best and effective gum disease prevention is the observance of proper oral hygiene. Oral hygiene is keeping the mouth clean and healthy through regular brushing and flossing to prevent bacteria and plaque build up and prevent the occurrence of certain dental problems. Dental visits should be also included with your oral hygiene habit, visit your dentist at least twice a year for dental assessment and evaluation.
